Home Automation, is a single centralised system that has the ability to control a number of different sub-systems in your home automatically. Therefore, turning your home into what’s known as a Smart Home. These different systems can include lighting, blinds, heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC), security systems, multi room audio/visual, and many more.
Imagine late afternoon in the evening, the sun’s setting, your blinds/curtains close and your lights begin to switch on without you having to press a button or go to the windows.
Or
You leave your home and with the touch of a ‘Goodbye’ scene your gates automatically open along with your garage doors, you leave and the doors shut behind you and the alarm sets automatically. The possibilities are almost endless.
Apart from making life convenient, a Smart Home is also a more energy efficient home. With the ability to control more services we have a greater chance to save more energy, in turn saving you more money.
For instance, if someone opens a window to let more fresh air into a room, with control of the heating and a window sensor we can automatically turn the heating off in that room saving energy and money. The same can also be done for air conditioning, if a room is south facing and the AC is on the system will shut the curtains/blinds so that there is minimal solar heat gain causing the AC plant to not work as hard.
Your Smart home can be controlled in a number of different ways, from in built wall touch screens to iPad’s and iPhones even if you’re not at home. With a simple, easy to use Graphical User Interface (GUI) there is now no need to have a different remote or several different apps to control your audio and visual devices. Simply select the room you are in, select the programme or film you want to watch and sit back and enjoy all with the press of a button.
At the centre of a Smart Home is a hub (sometimes 2 or 3 depending on the size of your system). Here we house all your audio and visual (AV) equipment, from SKY receivers to AV amps to media storage devices, in AV racks out of the way so you don’t see an unsightly mess of cables where your TV is positioned. From here we can distribute your media to any television in your house even including your CCTV system.
Lighting control in an essential part of a smart home. Gone are the days where one switch turns all the lights in the room on. Create scenes to suit either whatever mood you are in or a scene for simple convenience. Whether it’s colour changing LED’s, dimming the lights to a low level to settle down and watch a film or even needing the toilet in the middle of the night and being guided there by low level dimming so as not to wake the rest of the family whilst sleeping.
